Heaven bound .

For the past few months, the girl who we've come to know, love, pray for - is no more. Early in the morning, at 01:15 A.M. on 04th July, 2009, Babli passed away.
Yesterday, her condition was critical until 09:30 P.M. after which it deteriorated rapidly. Doctors there tried everything humanly possible to save her, but Babli didn't respond to their efforts..

At 01:15 A.M., she left us - beyond pain, beyond suffering. If it helps, she was unconscious throughout the ordeal, so she didn't have to suffer.

Babli would be cremated after all the hospital formalities are taken care of. Our volunteers are looking at it. Her mother, her Uncle, all her relatives are being cared for, but under the circumstances, we wish that we could really do something more...

We shall update you with details, as we receive them. Medical records, receipts, would be uploaded to the site, once the hospital formalities are completed. Please bear with us until then.

Critical again.

There's a bad piece of news. Babli's had a lot of internal bleeding today. There's fluid in her lungs, and she's in the ICU in a very critical state. We are in constant touch with her mother and uncle, but there's not much we can do apart from praying and comforting them. Doctors are trying their level best to stabilise her, and we hope that they succeed.

However, there's still hope, so please pray for Babli. She needs it now more than ever.

Regards,
DreamIndia

Health update.

Babli had a small procedure yesterday, wherein her periodic internal checkup was performed to see how her body had coped with the operation, with checks for signs of infection, inflammation, etc. Thankfully, she's doing well. She has been drifting in and out of consciousness, never fully lucid. She's on the ventilator post procedure. Doctors are hopeful, looking at the way things have progressed so far. We apologize that there haven't been reports from us - mainly because it's just a wait and watch situation for now. Her mother is to be discharged soon. She's recovering too.

Do spare a word for Babli and her folks in your prayers.

Thank you.

DreamIndia

Sunday update.

Some good news first. Babli's mother is awake. She's weak, but getting better as we speak. Babli's body has accepted the transplanted portion of her mother's liver, which is promising. Babli is still unconscious, but she's stable. Doctors are still not breathing freely, as she needs to wake up first before they carry out further procedures. Here's to hope - that the coming week will be good.

Please drop in a word for Babli in your prayers.

Regards,
DreamIndia

Wednesday update - status quo maintained.

Things haven't changed much today. Babli is under observation in the ICU. She is still unconscious and will continue to remain so for sometime. There are forty eight hours to go before we get a clearer picture. For now, Babli's mother too is sedated and under observation. What's encouraging though, is that both mother and daughter are stable.

Keep those prayers and good wishes coming.

DreamIndia

Liver transplant operation performed.

A quick update from Delhi. Babli's liver transplant operation was performed yesterday. The fourteen and a half hour operation was successful(!!!) and she was shifted to the ICU immediately after that. Babli's mother was the donor, and both mother and daughter are stable. The next seventy two hours are very critical for Babli. Doctors are monitoring her, and are hoping for the best. Please keep praying for Babli, as she needs it more than anything else.

We shall keep you updated periodically. Until then, please, keep praying.

Thank you.

DreamIndia

Health Woman and Child Development Ministry has stepped up to Help, DI forming “DI Medical Fund” for Babli's Post Operation Expenses

Babli & her family reached Delhi yesterday at around 4 am. We are happy to provide you with the following updates.

How is Babli's Health?

She is stable, doctors are still waiting for some more reports and then they will decide on final date of operation sometime early next week.

She will be discharged in 3 weeks after the operations positively, assuming Doctors see no complication. Post operation we need to keep her in KEM hospital Pune for another 2 -3 weeks.

Surprise Package of the Week!!

After admitting Babli in hospital Dr. Anupam Sibal personally came and  informed Sujit (DI volunteer who is accompanying Babli) that they have received a letter from Health, Women & Child development ministry (Copy attached with email) to EXEMPT  all surgery expenses.

What does this means?

This means that we only need to pay for medicines and other petty expenses; which brings down the estimated expenses in Apollo hospital to Rs.
7.25 lakhs. (Note, Government subsidy would operate on the original Operation Cost which was Rs. 16L-18L for Apollo)

How much money have DI - Donors raised till date?

(DI Continues requesting donors who haven't shared their identity yet to update the link given on blog or else drop us an email with your local address details if not done already)

What is the next plan of action after Babli's Operation?

We are continuously taking the stock of situation. We are likely to be left with around Rs. 7.70L after Babli's operation if everything goes fine and if there are no complications during or after the operation. In order to cater to Babli's Post Surgery medical needs, DI will form "Dream India Medical Funds" and deposit the surplus donations collected to it.

Post operation medicine expenditure of Babli is in tune of 10-15 k per months for first year and then 5k – 6k per month for another 8-10 years at least.

Formation of Committee

DI is also taking inputs from major donors and veterans from CSR field who also have helped us to raise these funds. A committee of comprising of these people along with DI Trustees - all names listed below - will be made to discuss the next course of action in the following week.

o   Mr. Amit Shahi (CEO Theideaworks)

o   Mrs. Suja Warrior (CSR head Infosys Bangalore)

o   Mr. Nishith Trivedi (CSR head Infosys Bangalore)

o   DI Trustees

Once again, the entire DI team thanks all of you for your kind and timely help.

We a group of students and working professionals have joined together working for a common motive of fulfill our social responsibilities as Dream India, an NGO.

Our volunteers have come across a genuine needy case these days, its about an innocent girl, Babli Pakidde (aged 8) facing a total liver failure on account of Wilson's disease. The only cure for Wilson's is a liver transplant and she could possibly die unless a liver transplant operation is performed immediately; possibly within the next two weeks.

Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore is one of the few hospitals in India where liver transplant operations are performed. The operation will cost Babli's mother 12 lakh rupees (25600 USD approx.). She is a 28 year-old, single mother; a nurse with a monthly income of Rs1500. Needless to say, she cannot afford to pay for the operation as well as post-op treatment costs. She is currently being treated in KEM Pune Hospital. Please check medical certificate issued by Narayan Children's Hospital in reference section.

We are glad to inform you that we have collected required funds for Babli's operation. Thansk to all those who directly and indirecly supported us.

Yours faithfully,

(For Dream India)
